Bruno has packed a basket and picked the perfect spot by the stream. The sun is warm; the bees are busy. Just as they settle in, a family of ducks waddles over and makes it clear they have prior claim.

Bruno offers to share. The ducks accept. Then a shadow falls across the blanket — and it is not from a cloud.

A group of friends has gathered around the fire. Bruno holds the floor, telling a story that gets wilder with every sentence. The flames crackle; everyone leans in. The tale involves a lost map, a hidden cave, and something that might still be sleeping inside.

Just as Bruno reaches the climax, a twig snaps in the woods behind them. Nobody moves. Bruno's expression says they might not have been making it all up.

The best honey in the forest is guarded by a fence, a lock, and a very alert beekeeper. Bruno has a plan — or thinks they do. They recruit a nervous rabbit and a skeptical owl. The three sneak in at dusk.

They reach the hive. Bruno reaches for the golden comb. Then the beekeeper's voice rings out: 'I've been expecting you.' And the tone is not angry — it is almost pleased.

Bruno has landed a job at the village bakery. The head baker is strict but fair. The first task: knead dough without eating any. It is harder than it sounds. By noon, Bruno has flour everywhere and one perfect loaf.

The baker inspects it, nods once, and says they can stay. Then they add: 'Tomorrow we make the wedding cake. Don't be late.' Bruno has never made a wedding cake. The wedding is in three days.

Snow has closed the pass. Bruno's den is warm and stocked, but a knock at the entrance reveals a lost traveler — cold, tired, and carrying a package they refuse to put down. Bruno lets them in. Soup is shared. The fire crackles.

The traveler finally opens the package. Inside is a single seed. They say it is the last of its kind, and they were taking it to someone who could save it. They look at Bruno. 'That was you.'
